What to do in case of typhoon

Important Things To Do In Preparation For An Upcoming Typhoon

Even we don't admit it, unexpected things always happened in our life. At times, these things approach when we are not geared up. Just like a typhoon. Living in the Philippines for years, I experienced numerous storms that really test our hope and belief in God.

The last time around was the Typhoon "Reming". That was such a DOOM to me. How could you imagine seeing the paper-like roof of your neighborhood stumbling upon the strong wind and heavy rain? Thus, to avoid further accidents, we need to be prepared.

As stated by PAGASA, another typhoon would probably hit the Philippine territory and it would be named dodong. I'm here not for anything but to warn our fellow men and help them to stay away from mishaps that may take place.

Upon knowing that there is a typhoon coming, you should do these seven important things.

*The typhoon always has its eye and that is the most dangerous thing that you should avoid. If the eye of the typhoon passes your house, it may create a lull lasting wind and heavy rain for hours. Sometimes, it could also produce land shakes. In this case, you should stay in a safe place and locate an emergency area just in case the typhoon reached the high end disturbance. Always have a flashlight in your hand just in case the power got lost. In this way, you'll going to see the way to the emergency area together with your love ones.

*Vacate to the place wherein it can't be affected by the storm. These are probably high places with strong foundation and land mass. This is the best place during a storm.

*Sometimes, people got harmed not because of the calamity but because of their carelessness. Not to sound offensive but many of us panic during disasters like typhoon. On the other hand, if you stay calm, you'll going to avoid further tragic events.

*Stay away from low-lying areas such as beaches. During the typhoon, tides might go higher and might destroy things around. You should definitely stay away from these areas. Check out for flying objects such as woods, light metals and other dangerous stuff.

*Don't forget to bring extra food and clothes. You'll going to need these goods just in case you are planning to leave your house and go directly to the designated evacuation area. Don't forget to pray, hoping that the storm would stay away from the area where you reside.

So, there you have it. Must things that you should do in preparation for an upcoming Typhoon. But don't underestimate these things as they could save you from an upcoming danger. Anyway, let's hope typhoons would not pass the Philippines territory.

7 Important Things To Do During The Typhoon

Unexpected things always happened in our life. typhoon dodong

Sometimes, these things come when we’re not ready. Just like a typhoon. Living in the Philippines for years, I experienced several super typhoons that really test our hope and belief in God. The last time around was the Typhoon “Reming”. That was such a DOOM to me. How could you imagine seeing the paper-like roof of your neighborhood stumbling upon the strong wind and heavy rain? Thus, to avoid further accidents, we need to be prepared. As stated by PAGASA, another typhoon would probably hit the Philippine territory and it would be named “Typhoon Dodong”. I’m here not for anything but to warn our fellow men and help them to stay away from mishaps that may take place.

Upon knowing that there is a typhoon coming, you should do these seven important things.

1.) The first thing that you should always bear in mind is to be calm and avoid believing in humors. Sometimes, people got harmed not because of the calamity but because of their carelessness. Not to sound offensive but many of us panic during disasters like typhoon. On the other hand, if you stay calm, you’ll gonna avoid further tragic events.

2.) Vacate to the place wherein it can’t be affected by the storm. These are probably high places with strong foundation and land mass. This is the best place during a storm.

3.) The typhoon always has its eye and that is the most dangerous thing that you should avoid. In this way, you’ll gonna see the way to the emergency area together with your love ones.

4.) Check out for flying objects such as woods, light metals and other dangerous stuff.

5.) Don’t forget to bring extra food and clothes. You’ll gonna need these goods just in case you are planning to leave your house and go directly to the designated evacuation area.

6.) Stay away from low-lying areas such as beaches. During the typhoon, tides might go higher and might destroy things around. You should definitely stay away from these areas.

7.) Don’t forget to pray, hoping that the storm would stay away from the area where you reside.

These are just simple things to do during the typhoon. But don’t belittle these things as they could save you from an upcoming danger. Anyway, let’s hope typhoons would not pass the Philippines territory.

Storm Meji: How to prepare before, during and after the storm
Storm "Meji" or "Juan" enters the Philippine area of responsibility

Supertyphoon “Megi” or “Juan” is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility on Monday. Various Government agencies are constantly monitoring and preparing for the possible landfall of the storm.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) is ready for possible pre-emptive evacuations in affected areas. The NDRRMC has also been instructed to preposition rescue equipment, if necessary. PAGASA and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) continue to provide timely and useful information to the public including hourly updates through their website, www.pagasa.dost.gov.ph, and their Twitter feed, @dost_pagasa. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has already prepositioned relief goods. The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and all relevant authorities were instructed to take down billboards until the typhoon is over. Rescue equipment, rubber boats, generator sets, fuel and vehicles are ready should the tropical storm cause landslides or floods. The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) staff and volunteers are also starting to pack relief items such as food, sleeping items and hygiene kits which will be distributed in the aftermath of the tropical storm.

While our government is preparing for “Juan,” below are proactive measures for public consumption on what to do before, during and after the typhoon, to reduce risks and aftermath:

Before the Typhoon

-Store an adequate supply of food and clean water. Prepare foods that need not be cooked.

-Keep flashlights, candles and battery-powered radios within easy reach.

-Examine your house and repair its unstable parts.

-Always keep yourself updated with the latest weather report.

-Harvest crops that can be yielded already.

-Secure domesticated animals in a safe place.

-For fisher folks, place boats in a safe area.

-Should you need to evacuate, bring clothes, first aid kit, candles/flashlight, battery-powered radio, food, etc.

During the Typhoon

-Stay inside the house.

-Always keep yourself updated with the latest weather report.

-If safe drinking water is not available, boil water for at least 20 minutes. Place it in a container with cover.

-Keep an eye on lighted candles or gas lamps.

-Do not wade through floodwaters to avoid being electrocuted and contracting diseases.

-If there is a need to move to an evacuation center, follow these reminders:

-Evacuate calmly.

-Close the windows and turn off the main power switch.

-Put important appliances and belongings in a high ground.

-Avoid the way leading to the river.

After the Typhoon

-If your house was destroyed, make sure that it is already safe and stable when you enter.

-Beware of dangerous animals such as snakes that may have entered your house.

-Watch out for live wires or outlet immersed in water.

-Report damaged electrical cables and fallen electric posts to the authorities.

-Do not let water accumulate in tires, cans or pots to avoid creating a favorable condition for mosquito breeding.
